Calvary Prison Ministry
Helping Bring Light Into a Dark World
About Us
The Reverend Frankie Johnson, founder and present coordinator of Calvary Prison Ministry, was born and raised in Plant City, Florida. Although she was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit at an early age, she chose instead to run away from God rather than serve Him.
Many years later, God spoke into her spirit yet again to let her know that is was, indeed, time for her to fulfill the calling that had been placed on her life so long ago.
In 1972, the Lord gave Rev. Johnson a vision. In it, she saw a sea of faces; faces of all shapes, ages, and colors; riddled with anguish from being locked up in prison. Being moved with compassion by the expressions on these countless faces, she immediately asked God what she could do to help. In response, God poured out His love into her heart and told her to carry the message of His love and freedom to prisoners everywhere.
For eight years she prayed about it, waiting patiently for God to show her what to do. Finally, in 1980, an opportunity presented itself that allowed herself and several other volunteers to go into a prison to minister.
Thus Calvary Prison Ministry began.
If you ever have the pleasure of hearing Rev. Johnson singing and giving glory to God, just remember that it's because she's simply following what is written in the scriptures:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has appointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." - Luke 4:18-19

He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.
Psalm 107:14
